Posting this in the open forum so everyone thats been playing with us can throw in their planned setup.

We're playing TR for release. Post your planned character progression.

Start with 6 points out of VR training.

Medium Assault (2)
Reinforced Armor (3)

Anti-Vehicle (3)

AMS (2)

Engineering (3)

Hacking (3)

Although I'm tempted to get the DC MAX for the first few days, then unlearn it cause no one has enough cert points to get anti-vehicle the first few days.

Looking at these setups so far. We'll need more combat engineering.

To start:
Hacking(3)
Infiltration Suit (?)
Adv Hacking(2)

And after that, AMS cert and engineering/adv engineering from there. I read Naru's comment about more engineering, and I agree. I have no probs with handling support roles like hacking/engineering. I've played enough FPS's in my time so I'm not trigger happy anymore =) Once I get in and get a hack or wreck some stealth-induced havoc on the enemy, I can switch to "engineer mode" and help rebuild.

Hopefully this will help round out the group a bit.

To Start:

Medium Assault (2)
Reaver (4)

As Ranks permit:

Sniping (3)
Reinforced Exo (3)

From there I am somewhat uncertain. I will either A) train in multiple vehicles (AMS, Prowler, Sunderer etc) -or- go with the full out infantry assault certs again like Anti Vehicle, Heavy Assault etc with putting additional points into first level engineering and medic.

Sorry, I've tried multiple attempts at doing Combat Engineer work (from Base Defense / Turrets and sensors to Stealth Sabotage with boomers to MAX and vehicle fixer upper) but I have just not found it enjoyable enough to dedicate my entire playtime to it. =/

Edit:

Well that didn't happen :o.

Setup now:
Medium Assault
Special Assault
Sniping
Reinforced
Engineering
Marauder

To get:
Medical
possibly skyguard.

Starting with:
- Galaxy (to keep the squad mobile)
- MAX pounder

Grabbing the rest in this order:
- Medium assault
- MAX cycler
- Sunderer
- AMS

The rest is based on what we've got.

Something like this:

Medium Assault (2)
Reinforced (3)

Anti-Vehicle (3) (Striker owns!)
Hacking (3)
Advanced Hacking (2)

Then not sure! Maybe:
Medic (3)
Some sort of vehicle (3)
Heavy Assault (4)

I probably won't be able to play at release....but if I can...

First:
Medium Assault (2)
Reinforced (3)
DC Max (3) (although I may switch that around)

Then:
Whatever is needed...

I'll be going along the same lines as Elwyn pretty much, except Ill throw Sniping in there somewhere, because its a nice utility cert to have.

I WILL OUTSNIPE DOWD!

Medium assault (2)
Anti-vehicle (3)

Reinforced Armor (3)
Special Assault (3)

and then who knows, maybe sniper, hacking, or a vehicle, but my core is striker-rocklet.

I am going with (in the following order!):

Medium Assault (2)
Engineering (3)
Medical (3)
Reinforced Armor (3)
Anti-Vehicular (3)
Hacking (3)

Leaving 6 points leftover for whatever.

Personally I enjoyed playing infantry as a MAX/infantry/vehicle support unit, and liked being able to do a little bit of everything. If you needed medical or repairs, I could do it, something hacked I could do it, if we had MAX/reaver/vehicle issues I had a weapon to help deal with it. Most importantly for me I just enjoyed feeling useful no matter what situation I was in =)

Just let me know which things need to be changed or things I can add and I will though =)

(thought we were gonna go to an East-Coast server. Oh well, makes little difference)

As for me, probably gonna be:

Reaver (4?) - lots of fun to fly and can scout ahead and devastate vehicles and Maxes if you catch them unaware. Can provide escort for vehicle convoys or ANT. Will have to see what affect the new anti-air vehicles will have on the game, though. May end up unlearning this.

Engineering (3) - to repair my Reaver when it's damaged and they're hard to come by, or when I can't get a Reaver, I can at least repair other unit vehicles or our soldier's' armor.

Hacking (3) - can solo-capture towers in the Reaver when they're unguarded, and can sometimes hack enemy vehicle terminals to get a Reaver

Special Assault or Anti-Vehicle(3) - Loooove that Decimator and striker is decent, too - can use these to assist /defend when not in the air.

and then Reinforced Armor or something else we need.

I will do anything needed, except for Cybering Vendrix!

Ook ok ok!

Umm...what do you guys need? I like stealthy types or scouting types if you need any.

Stealthers are cool in Planetside, but they're nowhere near as powerful as you're used to in DAoC. They can be seen while moving (somewhat), can only carry a pistol, have a tiny inventory and the most common implant that people get makes them visible even when standing still.
All that said, they're still cool but someone who's played one may offer a better perspective. Infiltration suit + hacking is a pretty popular combo.

There aren't really "scouts" in PS. Anyone could grab a fast plane or vehicle and scout if they wanted to. Try out different guns and vehicles in the VR training once you get the game. Just find out what you like. And no worries, you can always change your mind later. Certifications can be unlearned.

I'm by no means a stealther expert, never played one, but here's some of my thoughts on them after encountering them.

i found stealthers quite easy to spot while moving without darklight vision implant. only problem is when they stand still. Used to drive over my own sides stealthers who decided to stop in the middle of a base while i was doing drivebys, ran over quite a few.

one deal with hacking tho. the "hacker beam" is seen by all, while the hacker is invisible, anyone with eyes open will see the beam.

I saw one stealther who had alot of success with the knife, using the moment of distraction when other in his team drew fire while he snuck up and knifed em in the back.

Another used the combat engineering to lay mines without being seen. Pissing me off alot :? . Nothing like driving around the base for 3-4 laps then suddenly drive into 3 mines which weren't there.

There's also a "stealth" vehicle, which if you drive in a infiltration suit becomes invisible also. It had no guns tho but is quite fast. Also suffers from the blurriness while moving and is in some environments easy to see. but then again hard to catch up to. I only managed to down one with my Lighting tank, and was more of a luck shot cause the dumbass didn't try to dodge my fire and drove straight.

All in all i think stealthers can be quite good if played right. I've seen some amazing signs of stupidity from some tho. but there are others who rock at it.

And like Elwyn said, scouting can be done by almost anyone. Perhaps best done in a aircraft. I liked my Lighting tho, easy to drive, good firepower and fast for a tank. only drawback is the light armor.

Actually the true scouting vehicle is the mosquito. When flying below 50% speed it "illuminates" all ground targets to radar (of you and your team) like a giant motion detector. Even people in the basement of bases you fly over are detected.

I have been certifying and decertifying about as fast as I have been allowed to.

I tried a lot of different guns, and the vehicles out in VR, but haven't gotten a real feel for them until I"ve been shot down in combat a few times.

I haven't been very good at any sort of combat so far (lag issues plus I just suck). So now I'm going to start training the support roles (engineering/hacking/healing), and see if I can be of more help in those certifications.

Incidentally, I've noticed that recertifying is not working as advertised. When you decertify, the points become available immediately. You do not have to wait 24 hours for the decertification. However, you can not decertify another skill until the 24 hour countdown is finished.

I think I have a setup similar to chaya's but I don't have a vehicle cert.

Medium Assault (2)
Engineering (3)
Combate Engineering (2)
Medical (3)
Advanced Medical (2)
Reinforced Armor (3)
Anti-Vehicular (3)
Hacking (3)

I plan on dropping CE when Liberator comes out and I think it should be 4 cert points, so when I hit 20 I'll have enough (corsses fingers).

I've settled on the following, unless somebody decides we need to focus on another area more:

I have:

AMS (2)
Reinforced Armor (3)
Medium Assault (3)
Engineering (3)
Adv. Engineering (2)
-------------
I plan on:

Hacker (3)
Adv. Hacker (2) (So I can get an AMS anywhere)

That leaves 6 certs so I figure on picking up another weapon cert, and one more vehicle cert (air or tank, haven't decided)
