View Full Version : 'guild hopping' or just getting your money's worth?

I don't want this to be an argument, please don't flame me. I just want other people's views.

A lot of people look down at 'guild hoppers', and I want to know why (well, read on to understand what I mean). I do NOT consider myself a guild hopper whatsoever, but isn't it fair to consider circumstances before naming someone? I'm going to give you a direct example of my experience. A couple months ago, I applied to you guys and after talking to Azayia, she told me she'd try to get me into raids when possible..but there was a waiting list. I thought, great! After waiting a little bit, I decided that you guys were more then likely not gonna need another hunter for awhile..so, before I go on, I ask this..At this point, I have waited a little while, what do I do at this point? Please understand I *COMPLETELY* understand, and am NOT whatsoever disagreeing with me having to wait. It's completely understandable and simple really, y'all didn't need another hunter at y'alls raids. So, at this point am I supposed to continue waiting for weeks to even months for a spot in a raid? I may be talkative and quite full of life at times, but I am not at all impatient. I figure, hey, it's been awhile..it's time to move on and try my luck somewhere else. Does that name me a sucker? Is that wrong? So, I did. I looked around for other guilds..after talking with a few other Guild Leaders and reading a few other charters, at this point I had heard a lot of good things about Punished..this was before the whole stage where they were called ninjas and exploiters. Anyway, I'd heard a lot of good things about Punished, I heard that they raided often and had some great people. I heard all this from an old friend, Murmur. What he did not tell me, though I did not specifically ask, was that raids were built up of mostly guildies, but many pickups (well, I wouldn't call them pickups since they went on every raid with us and were indeed really cool people)..this was something I didn't prefer, but I can deal with. So after talking with Murmur and hearing a lot of cool things, I decided, ok I have heard enough..then I spoke with Turk and got an invite to Punished. I enjoyed myself for awhile, and the truth is that 99% of them ARE awesome people and the whole thing about ninjas is actually a RUMOR..BUT after awhile, I started to see a couple sour apples that sort of ruined my gameplay. I hold to my word when I say I will not open my mouth and say who said what, but certain things built up to me having to leave. If I must be hated because I leave a guild where I do not feel comfortable and disagree completely with things they do to other people, then I guess it must be that way. I will NOT tolerate even one ugly attitude or someone who makes another person feel like total crap for personal benefit of maybe a good laugh. I have morals and I do not believe in that sort of thing. I consider myself a fair player and I want a guild that has consideration for other people. So was I wrong? It seems as though my leaving Punished has impacted guild leader's decisions in considering me as a viable recruit. With all that said, if I am still considered a person who is unable to commit to one thing, then I give up and quit this game. I do NOT find this to be fair at all, I pay for this game and will not put up with things as such that happened. I pay for this game for one reason, to have a good time. If I can't have a good time, why pay for it? Anyway, I didn't want this to become a personal matter, and it's not.

In Lamen's terms: Does jumping from one guild to another automatically give you this tag, or is the person allowed an explaination?

You see, getting back to me crying my eyes out and making this a personal matter, I am really down about not having luck with finding a guild. Should I really just look at one guild and not give 2nd thought to it? Even if they don't contact me for months? I am sorry, but this is still just a video game..I can't keep myself occupied for that long, especially after I have collected most of the blue gear I would ever need for my class. You tend to just lose interest in the game and waiting months for an application to be covered is just a tad unrealistic. I am not saying this is the case, that is where my next point comes in. How long IS a fair amount of time before moving on to another application to another guild? 1 day, 1 week, 1 month? Or is it up to the guild to indicate that I have been removed from possible recruitment due to the guild simply being full, then I move on? I am not directing this at any specific guild, but to all guilds in general. I am not flaming anyone, just ranting for the sake of understanding something that has apparently passed me by.

In Lamen's terms: How long should a person wait before applying to another guild? When should he come to the realization that current application is not going to pass and he should apply to another guild of interest?

Just some stuff I needed to say. Please try to first understand where I am coming from before you disagree with me if you must. Discuss or dispose, but please do not flame this thread.

To sum it all up it doesn't show you are dedicated to a guild you want to apply for. People don't care to much about someone switching guilds. The big problem is when they apply to different guilds at the same time.

As for Punished Ninjaing it isn't a rumor. They did it with us when they were still raiding with us.

No offense but, ever heard of paragraphs? I can't read that sorry.

On that note, I spent about a month and a half and a total of at least 50 hours of waiting outside instances before I got my trial invite. In the meantime, I dealt with two "removals" which definitely contributed to the lengthy time before I was invited. However, after all that time, I can say that getting into Da`kor was well worth the efforts.

It took me awhile to realize what was what when I first hit 60, I didn't know what or how to go about getting a raid guild. I don't have as much experience in MMO's as some do, I had no idea I'd have to deal with all this drama. I learned the hard way, but a lesson learned is a step ahead..but with the average maturity level on this server, grudges are not to be forgotten. I was very dedicated to joining the guilds I applied for, I do not apply for guilds I have no interest in. As I said, people have reasons and circumstances..but people sometimes don't care to consider them.

There was a time I did apply at two guilds at the same time, but people do have different views on this. I believe I am selling myself to you as you are selling yourself to me when I apply. When I first hit 60, I didn't know too many 60's, so it didn't matter which guild I applied to..more then likely I wouldn't know anyone in any of the guilds, but that should not stop people from communicating. Relationships do grow after being in the same room for hours, provided both parties are well mannered people.

Unfortunately, this server is about sticking to your views and not compromising with anyone about anything. This server is also a server where you do not regain reputation, you simply live regretting a mistake without a chance to prove yourself..even if the mistake was completely unintentional.

Lastly, I am sorry if I have stressed anyone out over this. I am soon done here in this game; I can see I am not needed in this server, and frankly, I won't continue to play if I am just in people's way. I never purposely sought to ruin someone's day, nor did I want to create an issue with my applications. I simply did not understand something, but I do understand now and it sure has bit me in the rear.

Oh, and I am sorry to hear that about the ninjaing, Didek. I guess I missed that and I stand corrected.

subversive: I didn't use paragraphs because I wanted to keep a simple division of the two big points I was trying to make. You are not obligated to read it, so no worries :-)

If this is what it takes to show a guild my interest, then that is quite simple for me. I spend 50+ hours a week in IF anyway. =P You spoiled it, sir! Now they'll say I got the idea from you. =(

Thanks for any further input. I am still looking forward to other serious replies.

Unfortunatly Blizzard has made WoW into a game where raiding has a maximum of 40 people. In turn this makes it hard for guilds to recruit more than 40 people of certain classes.

That being said, we do have about 55+ members at the momment. Not all are active, some will be later as well, it's just right now there are times we aren't full and sometimes we always are.

What Krin did is what I suggest all applicants to do. It's hard to get into a guild that is dedicated to it's members. In Da`Kor, we look out for the big picture, we don't recruit by numbers, we recruit by dedication, perseverance and attitude.

Krin and many others have done just that which is why we extended an invite to them. Some members make it in faster because at times we feel we need a certain class in more than others. But things like that fluctuate all the time.

When you apply to Da`Kor, you have to be dedicated. If any of us see an application to another guild at the same time, that shows 0 dedication and you will not be allowed to apply. I'm sorry to say that, but it happends to a lot of people, if you want to guild shop, then Da`Kor is not for you.

In conclusion, due to the fact that Blizzard has made all content in WoW have a limit of 40, our recruitment status is closed, however this does not mean you will not gain entry, simply show dedication and a great attitude. Unfortunatly it may take a lot of time as most of our raids are full though.

Paragraphs are pretty damn essential, if you want to separate points then preface each section with "Point 1, Point 2, etc". Trying to read a paragraph that long only makes one's eyes bleed.
