Posting for a few people who asked me what Oblivion is and those who dont have the game yet, and because i love it. Most of what i write about is already covered in reviews so i dont think ill spoil much

Holy shit, what a beautiful looking game. I was worried but my computer runs the game very well. i have it in 1152x864 res and it looks awesome. could prolly crank it up a bit to 1280x960 but ill save that for later when i have more time.

btw, i run a AMD 64 3500+ processor with 2 gigs of ram and a geforce 6600. nothing fancy but the game runs really well. cant figure out how to display frames per second in game but i would guess prolly close to 30-40 with med-high settings. expected to run barely medium i guess.

The combat is pretty cool compared to Morrowind. Sorta simplified the damage from what i can tell (mind you the weapons i have come accross so far are only the 1 or 3 damage. theres no range, only 1 or 2 or 3 for damage.) I made an Assassin type char and the stealth system is revamped. Pretty much the Assassin character class the game starts with with a few stats mixed around (I love luck as an ability). You can sneak up on enemies and hit them with a bow or melee attack and deal tons of damage.

*** Slight Spoilers***
You start off a prisoner, for what crime you dont know. The emperor is fleeing assassins and his escape route happens to run through your cell. lucky day. while they are escaping you meet up with them again, story stuff happens and your sent to find the emperors hier through contacting one of his bodyguards.
The quest sends you to find a dude... not hard right? well hes not in the Imperial City (from what i can tell) so i explored to city and followed my compass out of town (the town is sweet looking, sort of a gritty Stormwind with high walls and brick buildings. btw, while in the city i broke into a few houses and managed to steal some nice clothes (i refuse to walk around in a potatoe sack) and sell some wares. I buy some cheap leather armor and start running toward the red arrow.

Well, the arrow takes me into the woods. The grass and hills look awesome, really well textured and thought out. Well, on my mini map i get an icon that looks like a house. Short detour and i find an abandoned castle. I find the way in and make my way to the deepest part of the castle (best loot is underground right?) Creepy almost indian jones type feel to the dungeon. I see a couple feral rats and easily dispatch them. further into the cave i find my first difficult battle. I stumbled upon two goblins. one looks slightly different with a shield, but the other looks identical to the easily killed ones. so i sneak up on them. with my 6x damage sneak attack i DONT kill the goblin and they fight me. in a battle lasting about 5 minutes and tons of blocking i manage to kill the first goblin and beat the second goblin to a pulp. second goblin blocked my attacks. He didnt just mindlessly attack me and he certainly wasnt predictable. I would open with an attack, he would block and counter quick. i would waiut for him to attack again only he waited. i sidestep and take a swing at him and he blocks and counters. i manage to block but am unable to find an opening in his defence. i block and get off a heal spell. the back and forth swing and miss goes on for forever it seems until i get a lucky hit on him and he drops.

the NPC interaction prompts a minigame where you pick the right option and you win points. lock picking is another mini game where you have to click the tumbler into place. more advanced locks have more tumblers and if you fail they can reset. no more REQUIRES 75 lockpick to open bullshit. i mean, you cant expect to open a level 100 lock with 30 skill but you can try right?

ill post later tomorrow but i have to sleep now. awesome game and feel free to post your own comments on the game or ask questions. sorry for the scattered nature of the post but i am very tired :D

Oddly, I found an issue that scared me at first. I have both of my computers near each other, never been a problem. While playing Oblivion, could hear what sounded like a static hiccup and my main "internet" machine restarted. Three times.

Was thinking, wtf. Shut it off and figured I'd look at it in the morning. It is pretty noisey. I haven't upgraded or done jack too it in about 4 years other then clean it. After shutting it down, noticed I could hear the other computer working very hard. Shut off Oblivion and could hear the fans slowing down. Other machine now stays running.

Some reason, after about 5 hours gameplay, my other machine just kicked into overdrive and started to stress really badly. I'll have to look into what is going on later when I have time. Posting this after playing, on my way to bed.

haha cured vampirism. note to self, never run into a den of vampire orcs without potions of cure disease. vampire orcs wtfpwn unless you sneak up on them and backstab them. stole a silvered longsword. silver is good on vampires right? or was that werewolves...?

game runs wonderfully. joined the thieves guild, kinda cool. in order to get quests i need to prove my skills by stealing items and selling to a fence. well, i needed about 50 gold. i found my way into a guard tower in Bruma, stole two guard tabards (easily 50 gold), stole some shitty heavu armor and found a silver longsword. i kept the sword and hit my quota. its nice to be an actual rogue again :D
