Ok, got Mahlerion (damn, he's cute) to L5.7 despite the control problems, did some exploring, and found the scroll shop (YAY). I got a mission to find this guy, Makarim, in the Zeruhn mines. Can't find the sob. Any ideas where he might be?

Is there a "best" way to get gils at low levels? I have only my starting armor, and until I found that scroll shop, had only my starting spell, which made it kinda tough at L4. Have all the spells I can learn at this point except for Earth, and got 2 copies of the L7 spell, Bind, off of mobs.

I should be playing all day tomorrow, so hopefully will make some decent progress.

Makarim is in a corner of the mines. if i recall take left then right and enter a large cave. Take middle passage from there.
Rex in Port Batsok (little kid near some shop tents) sells zerhun map for 200 gil.


Best way to make cash at lower levels would be to collect stacks of crystals while fighting and sell them at Auction House. Fire sells best i think. Wind also good. Earth are pretty low priced.

ffvault.ign.com and click on locations in the sidebar. They have the location of most NPCs for quests.
