This Gamepad is just like a PS2 controller, but comes with macro software (Logitech Profiler) and doesn't require an adapter.

Total cost: ~$20

After installing it, here is how you configure it to be cool like me.

With playonline closed, open up the FFXI config from the start menu. Click gamepad config and enable the gamepad with the options show in the attached PDF.

Notice how we UNMAP most of the buttons! This is going to allow us to use the profiler software to turn those buttons into macros.

Save that and close it.

Next open logitech profiler. Create a new game config and configure the buttons we unmapped to do whatever you want (see the attached PDF for my mappings).

There is a TRICK! Due to FFXI having a laggy interface, when you're at the record macro screen you need to go into the extra options and check the box that says to record delays. Then when you record a macro, make sure to hold the keys down for a little bit.

Here is what one of my macros looks like after recording:
CTRL down
wait 0.3
1 down
wait 0.2
1 up
wait 0.1
CTRL up

The delay makes it work right!

If you have any questions, let me know.
