Playing intercontinental a bannable offense

If you play on an in America located World of Warcraft server from an overseas location, it is now enough reason to get your account banned because hey, there's no way they can tell it's you playing your toon and not some Iraqi! About to get stationed in Iraq? Will you be allowed to play World of Warcraft? Sure, you just need to buy a second account and make the rich richer if you don't want to get suspended like happened to Wanton:

Yes, I didn't know that your husband was over seas. If your husband was playing from your computer or even a near by computer we wouldn't know it wasn't you. However since you are logging in from here and he is logging in for there it is obvious that a different person is logging in from 2 different IP addresses. In the Terms Of Use it states that it is against blizzards policy to share accts, and also (saddly for our military men and women) if the person is not in the western hem. they are not allowed to play on the US/Canada/Austraila Western Servers, and must play on the servers in their area (our European and Asain servers are different games with different coding and do not connect nor transfer. So yes, please have your husban stop logging in to avoid account banning.

Blizzard's support is worst then ever these days. Get hacked and find your character naked? Hello ban! I mean come on suspension is the regular procedure which is understandable, because it gives you time to clean up your computer and get your shit together. Yet people got banned for it. I hope one of these days someone will wake up there and realise it will cost them costumers eventually.

Yup, I now too wonder if they are going to massively ban Europeans from US servers or do we get banned when we start accessing our account from an US located IP address? :confused:

And it's not like the Chinese never heard of VPN, right? So what's the use of banning those who access US servers from another continent? :p

I doubt they will ban you. There are quite a lot of non-Americans in our guild and it looks like Wanton was banned automatically for accessing his account through in IP which originates from Iraq. There's no actual Blizzard person directly involved in the ban which is the frustrating part of the banning, just some moron, or a bunch of morons, who decided that every American WoW account accessed through a Iraqi IP address should be automatically suspended and eventually banned.

Don't get me wrong, I think they should do something about the massive amount of scammers who create keyloggers, trojans and such to break into other people's accounts but suspending accounts because they were accessed from some odd/foreign IP address is ridiculous. It's possible to play WoW through a proxy server and I assume it's not very difficult to do it through a VPN either. Do they think these scammers are too dumb to know this too?

They have his email address in his contact information. They should automatically send a warning per email that is account is being accessed through this odd/foreign IP address and leave it with that.

A little off topic maybe, but with at least 4 spelling errors in that email I wonder if Blizzard Entertainment outsource their customer support to some foreign country with cheaper labor costs. And apparently the English spell checker didn't reach that country yet. :p

So I couldn't play WOW while traveling? It would of sucked for me if I still played ... Logging in from different countries or even states seems like a no go...

Although I could vpn back to my home network; but, why would I want the additional latency? sigh. Besides, VPN is only useful for circumventing IM auditing when I want to do x-rated cybering while at a customer site.

Anyhow, WTB new game ... until then I'll stick with lurking ;)

Blizzard retardation level just reached a new high. I also seem to recall they actually made it possible for us Non US citizens to play on US servers once the EU version got released. Cause it refused to take my EU credit card then, and i had Hothgar pay for my subscription for 3 months. Then EU got released and i could put in my EU VISA and it would work fine, and still does.


Oh well, glad City of heroes has no bull like that, they actually offered me a free character transfer, with a free copy of the game if i wanted to move, but i was in no way obligated to do so.

why worry about people from over seas playing? I understand if someone logs into your account from across the world, it is most likely not the original player....but then they can just suspend the account until the matter is dealt with....but no they need to find more reason to ban people. This is more then likely thier solution to also get the populations on all the servers =P. Although i can not say I would be happy to see this happening as a lot of my old friends from arthas as well as a few on executus play over seas....=(

I play from home, work and from a friends house every Monday before we watch Heroes. These are all 3 different IP's on 3 different subnets. If I get banned for this, or questioned, I honestly think i'll loose interest in WoW from that experience.

On another note: I live in Petawawa, Ontario. The biggest land troop army base in all of Canada. 14,000+ soliders here. You can't go to a coffee store without seeing men and women in army uni's around you. We have atleast 3 soldiers die per week in Iraq and Afganastan(sp). I really hope these men and women that risk their lives for us to call home, home.. can play a little video game on their downtime from WAR without having to worry that their account will be BANNED. These people risk their lives for us, this is one of the only things that might remind them of home, but now it's a bannable offense....

I can only hope someone brings this to the attention of the technology dept reps of the army and they contact blizzard to work this out. Our troops need WoW as much as we do.
