What class will you play?

I started a mage, as usual, and got him to level 11, then played a cleric to level 12. I like both, but after playing the cleric and then going back to my mage I'm still undecided.

1) priest/cleric -- good abilities and a needed class, obviously, and it makes getting groups in and outside the guild a lot easier. Was fun to play, at least at the low levels.

2) mage/sorcerer -- my "home" class and the one I play best. The usual strengths and weaknesses -- good burst damage, very weak defenses. Have to learn to avoid damage in order to solo effectively as the levels go up. One of the needed classes for CC. I guess this type class will always be my favorite, but I'm still undecided.

Basically, I guess I would be happy playing whatever we need the most. I'm going to guess that will be healers, but I'll wait and see what everyone else is going to play. I'll probably create one of each to at least reserve my names.

So, what are YOU going to play??

I'd say, play what you wish, and they can spot fill in whats needed. I found out first hand its hard to force yourself to play something you don't like for very long. Oh and the ranger was badass :)

Sorcerer... or assassin... hmm. Bip running around with big knives makes me think of a senile old man running around with scissors. So ya, has to be Sorcerer - much scarier.

Bip, not sure which class has the best CC, but the mage, of course, has a root, and the Cleric has a 20-second sleep. I think the sleep is probably a bit better. Root spells, no matter what game it is, seem to break too easily. <shrug>

In the poll I picked Mage/Sorcerer, but really, I would be happy playing a priest/cleric also. I wouldn't feel that I was playing something I really did not want to play just to fill in a needed class. Based on the poll results so far we may need melee!!

Thinking I will go with a Chanter and have a Ranger alt. Providing I find the game sufficiently fun to ever make an alt.

Wish the armor didn't look so bulky on the guys - I actually like the models enough that I'd roll one like I did in beta if the armory didn't look so horrible.

Took me half the time to get to the same level with my assassin that I did on the templar; probably as expected.

One thing that worries me, is that playing a melee class in Aion might be mad difficult while pvp'ing. Maybe it's just me, but when your flying around; adding another dimension to the mechanics of pvp suggests it would be easier on a ranged class?

I'd like to hear what you guys think about this?

Yes, ranged have the advantage in the air. No, it's not horribly imbalanced, but yeah, they can kite melee to death in a 1v1. Melee have to be smart about using their pots.

Looking over the classes, the Gladiator sounds fun for doing dps and offtanking for leveling. However, going Ranger seems like the smarter choice for pvp.

They aren't necessarily the best classes and they can always be nerfed/balanced in future patches:

Current Abyss Rankings - Korea v1.5 - Top 100 of the 5 highest pop servers:
48 - Assassin
10 - Templar
10 - Ranger
10 - Gladiator
9 - Cleric
8 - Chanter
3 - Sorcerer
2 - Spiritmaster

So yeah, roughly 50% of the top 100 is Assassin. But it doesn't give any info about how classes are divided over the rest of the population, as far as I can tell.

They decided to consolidate at one point. I think liberator and conqueror were combined into conqueror solved a delimma for me
