Not voting because work has my nuts in a vice while grad school hammers them relentlessly with a ball-peen hammer. But I hope you fags go empire pvp so if I ever manage 5 minutes of free time to log in I'll enjoy the game. I've tried several characters on the republic side and I just don't dig it as much.
I got my beta account reactivated sometime in the last 2 days. Haven't had time to check lately. But if there is more than one server choice this round, post which server to create on and which side.

What's the difference between the PVE and PVP servers? I can hardly believe my eyes... PVE is winning...

It's difficult to take this vote now with only a few people actually knowing anything about the game. Maybe there is a negligible difference between the PvE/PvP servers and it's a moot point, but maybe the difference ends up being vast. Right now, I don't know and I voted PvE simply based on my previous experience leveling on DAoC and WoW PvP servers.
The difference, to me, between the two is that you gain almost nothing by being on a PvP server. The pluses of, "wow, that was some good PvP and we kicked their asses!" are always far outweighed by the, "so, yea, I'm trying to get to you guys but I'm being corpse camped by someone named Darthsephirothxx" or, "I've died 6 times trying to get into the instance, but there is a group of level 50's camping the entrance." This was the exact scenario of WoW. I leveled multiple toons on PvP servers and the majority of PvP combat you saw was while leveling, supremely out-leveled by your attacker. If I had to say exactly what I felt it added to the game - speed bump.
My life has changed a lot, no longer do I have from 4-12pm after work to grind out XP to stay ahead of or equal to the front running power gamers. In all likelihood, I'll have from 8-11pm and maybe some weekend time. Should BobaPhag decide to corpse camp me for an hour, he just ate 33% or more of my playtime for the night.
But, again, I'm just speculating. Maybe the game will end up being like Warhammer, where even on a PvE server the open realm areas got bigger as you progressed in levels and you could choose or choose not to enter them, as well as having battlegrounds which keeps people busy and there is less griefing. If it's just the same PvE world with neither of those and the ability to kill people anytime/anywhere, well, then it's going to be like UO and... fuck that.

A PvP server is open PvP for all Lv20+ zones.
PvE servers work like WoW. You need to be flagged for PvP to happen.
Currently, each faction has their own story lines which guide which worlds they're visiting in their questing. Normally the zones are dedicated completely to that faction, however; the opposing faction can choose to zone into these areas. These 'intruders' will have a more difficult time as the zone is generally dominated by the faction and it's NPC guards. This seems to be the case up to the Lv 40+ range, in which most zones appear to be shared access.

I prefer the open pvp, the trick is to be the camper and not the campee
also I bolster my vote with tits so it counts as 10 votes!

Yea, Ven, I hear you... obviously the game has to be designed intelligently enough so that you have at least *some* options (e.g., stealth, train guards, call for help, go to another zone or a private instance) even if some high level idiot wants to camp your level 5 noob. If these options exist, I always have more fun exploring them and "going with the flow." Most PVP MMOs I've played in the last few years have options like that... but if SWTOR doesn't then yea that's pretty stupid.

To comment on what Kor said; they do have multiple instances of the same zone so you can indeed jump to another if you want.

What they could do, in that case, is designate an instance of each zone to be PvP and the other to be PvE so you always have the option of either.

I'm not so sure that rolling Empire is a good idea.
Quotes from forums:
Someone crunched the numbers based on guilds and found that looking at all PvP servers, the ratio seems to be around 70:30 in favor of the Empire. If the number of characters on each side mirrors that ratio, it's going to cause some real problems I think; that's saying that imperials will outnumber republic by more than 2 to 1.
The poll in my signature has stayed around (60% Imperial) (40% Republic) for a while now.
The official class poll is about 47% republic and 53% empire.
Dev comment about faction balance from February:
http://torwars.com/2011/02/04/georg-zoeller-comments-on-faction-imbalances-swtor-forums/
(my takeaway is that they don't think they can do anything about the overall cross-server faction balance)
A thread about the pop stats of PVP PST servers as they look right now (horribly imbalanced):

I thought that Bioware was going to do something on their end to actively enforce some semblance of balance on the servers. Maybe that's just for beta though.

I doubt they will force people to play a faction they don't like, and I haven't seen any incentives for choosing republic.
I'm changing my vote to Republic PVP.

I just want to roll with friends. I dont much care what side it is. from what I understand the classes are pretty much mirrored on each side. Might be fun to be a dark side Republican cant get much more evil than that.

True!
Moving on... I'm changing my vote (that I never should have made) to "don't care." The only thing I'm steadfast about is not wanting to play on a server that's overcrowded from day one. Queue times can suck it and if I sit down to play and have to wait more than 5 minutes, I'm officially done on that server.

Well, five minutes might have been a bit of an exaggeration. What I mean is, if there are five servers and 1-2 of them are clearly overcrowded and have a two-hour queue time, versus the other three that all have a 5-10 minute queue time... yea, I take the latter.

Any pvp is good it doesn't matter to me if we are out numbered, that just means we have a lot more targets to roam with gank squads and kill. My vote can be counted towards either side, as long as it's a pvp server.

not much of a change vote wise I see :P, still the only Republic vote there. Oh wells I had fun on the Warrior as well over my last beta weekend. the classes are basicly the same anyways with some minor differences.
I don't care which faction (whichever is underpopulated I guess? either is fine with me though). Just want a PvP server.

Probably from end of May, if I'm not too far behind to catch up. And I probably will be able to catch up since MMO's aren't cruel that way as EQ was (had its charmes!). :p Need to graduate in May.

Doesn't surprise me either the leader(s) of Ebonlore would do such a thing. Ewle has such a great rep. ;)
Judging my the numbers I'd go Republic (PVP). Wouldn't want to make the same mistake as we did in WoW and end up on the overpopulated faction without world PvP to kill time. :p
Ewle was Azakar, Varixx, and Ctuchik's dark master.
